Jaishankar claimed that facts were twisted regarding abrogation of Article 370

External Affairs Minister

S Jaishankar

on Monday

criticized the politics taking place in

Jammu and

Kashmir after the removal of Article

370 .

He told that facts were distorted and an attempt was made to make a special plot.

S Jaishankar was speaking during an event organized to read excerpts from a book titled 'Modi@20' in Washington DC.

In response to a question asked about the current understanding of US lawmakers on the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, he said, "There is a big ruckus about the internet being cut. What can I say if it is more dangerous than harm?"

In India, on 5 August 2019, the central government announced the withdrawal of the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and divided the region into two union territories.

During a conversation in Washington DC, S Jaishankar said that Article 370 which gave special status to Jammu and Kashmir was a temporary provision of the Indian Constitution which was scrapped.

He asked, "If you look at the issue of Article 370, which was a temporary provision of the Indian Constitution, it was finally scrapped. It was considered an act of majoritarians. But you tell me what was happening in Jammu and Kashmir." Wasn't that majoritarianism?

S Jaishankar claimed that facts were twisted and tampered with regarding the abrogation of Article 370.

"I think facts were twisted and joked about it. Confusion was created about what is right... what is wrong. That's how politics actually works," he said.
