We never comment on the results of national elections, a spokesman for the European Commission said today at a press conference in response to questions related to the elections in Italy, BTA reported.

The EC and its president work with the elected governments in the EU, so it will be in this case as well, the spokesperson added.

Naturally, we expect constructive cooperation with the new Italian authorities.

We expect Italy to produce a government according to the rules of the constitution, he added.

The spokesman refrained from giving an assessment of the reasons for the decisions of the Italian voters.

According to him, it would be an attempt at extreme simplification to say that the data from the Italian elections show the attitudes towards the EU.

The party that won Italy's election promised to work with Mario Draghi's government to pass the budget
