Denmark's Maritime Traffic Agency reports a gas leak in the Baltic Sea in the area of the island of Bornholm not far from the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.

Vessels are advised not to move near the leak site.

The announcement followed news of a sudden drop in pressure on the defunct Nord Stream 2.

The pressure on the pipeline, which was supposed to deliver gas from Russia to Germany, dropped overnight from 105 to 7 bars, the Swiss-based operator said, and assured that all authorities had been informed.

The Swiss company claims that if there is a leak, it cannot be at the final point of the pipe - Lubmin in northern Germany.

The German authorities are investigating the reasons, BNR said.

Natural gas prices in Europe jumped 26%

Nord Stream 2 is to double the supply of Russian gas from St. Petersburg via the Baltic Sea to Germany.

The pipeline was completed and filled with 300 million cubic meters of gas when German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stopped it shortly before the start of the war in Ukraine.
