This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs

Vladimir Makei

in an interview with the Russian news agency RIA Novosti.

"Other options are not excluded," he said.

- But, I understand that everything will depend on the behavior of our partners, on the immediate threats to Belarus and Russia.

And if such steps are taken by our Western partners, then we, of course, together with Russia will develop adequate response measures."

At the same time, Makei clarified that he cannot take responsibility for talking about the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.

"But I know that these issues were discussed by our leaders and on the line of the defense ministries.

And I think that if the situation requires it, our countries will be ready to take the most decisive steps to guarantee reliable security for our countries, for our peoples," the minister emphasized.

When asked about the placement of Russian military bases in Belarus, Makei replied: "No one knows what may happen and nothing can be ruled out in the future, given the unpredictability of the development of the situation, the unpredictability of the behavior of our partners."

"But at the moment, taking into account the high level of military technology that has been achieved today, I think that there is no particular sense in placing additional foreign, in this case, Russian military bases on the territory of Belarus.

It is enough to place the appropriate equipment in the Smolensk region or somewhere else, and it will, perhaps, look even more effective than the placement of specific Russian bases in Belarus," said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus.
