On Monday, September 26, the court in Astana determined the punishment for the famous Kazakh businessman Kairat Satybalda, who is the nephew of the former president of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

This is reported by "Radio Azattyk".

He was considered one of the most influential businessmen in Kazakhstan while his uncle was the head of state.

In March 2022, Satibaldy was arrested, accused of embezzling money from the largest national telecommunications operator, Kazakhtelecom, and the Transport Service Center company.

During the pretrial investigation, those involved in the case returned more than $500 million to the state, but this did not help Nazarbayev's nephew.

He was sentenced to six years in prison with confiscation of property and deprivation of the right to hold positions in the public service for a period of 10 years.

Satibaldy will serve his sentence in a medium-security prison.

In addition, a proposal was submitted to the President of Kazakhstan, Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev, to deprive Nazarbayev's nephew of the rank of major general of the national security agencies, as well as the "Kurmet" and "Parasat" orders.

It will be recalled that the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Zhomart Tokayev signed the law on changing the name of the capital Nur-Sultan to Astana.
