Five rescuers died when Typhoon "Noru" passed through the Philippines, France Press reported.

"They were sent by the provincial authorities to a flooded area" in Santa Maria, said the police chief in the municipality of San Miguel, near Manila.

According to the head of San Miguel's natural disaster department, they probably drowned.

Yesterday, Noru brought strong winds and heavy rains to the densely populated main island of Luzon.

Accompanied by winds of 195 km/h, it is the strongest typhoon recorded this year in the country. 

Nearly 75,000 people were evacuated before the storm, and the meteorological services warned of the danger of major floods in vulnerable areas of the country, BTA adds.
