New Delhi:

The central government has banned 45 videos and 10 YouTube channels for broadcasting fake news aimed at spreading religious hatred.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, it has been said that such videos were said to create communal hatred and hurt the public order in the country.

The government said that it has blocked the video based on inputs from intelligence agencies.

The total number of views of the blocked video was over 1.3 million.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur tweeted that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has banned and suspended 10 YouTube channels for trying to sabotage ties with friendly countries through misinformation, spewing venom against the country. It has been done before in the interest of the nation, will also do it in future.

The statement issued by the government said that some of the videos blocked by the ministry were being used to spread propaganda on issues related to Agneepath scheme, Indian Armed Forces, India's national security apparatus, Kashmir, etc.

The content was deemed inaccurate and sensitive from a national perspective.
