An 18.18-carat heavy pink teardrop-shaped diamond is set in a ring, sandwiched between huge white diamonds on either side for added brilliance.

Christie's noted that the numbers, which rhyme with "fa", have a lucky meaning in Asia, meaning "the wind is born and the water rises", and stressed that the diamond is expected to be "interested by collectors around the world."

"The 18.18-carat weight is auspicious and will definitely bring good luck to the new owner," Christie's jewellery expert Angela Berden told AFP.

"It's hard to find such color saturation in natural rough stones, such heavy crystals, this color, and the clarity is very translucent. It's really rare... At this moment, I don't know where to find another one."

Cushion-shaped pink diamonds have appeared at auction in the past, and Fortune Pink is the largest pear-shaped pink diamond ever sold at auction.

Christie’s 2018 auction of the 18.96-carat “The Winston Pink Legacy” sold for more than $50 million, setting a world record price per carat for a pink diamond.

Sotheby's auctioned a 37.3-carat Raj Pink diamond estimated at $30 million in 2017, but it failed to sell.
