The city of Lyman in Donetsk is strategically important for the further counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the territory of Luhansk region.

This was stated by military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko in an interview with

TSN.ua.

"In fact, we can consider Liman as strategically important. If we are talking about the advance of the Armed Forces deep into the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, this settlement is strategically responsible for the advance in the direction of Kreminnaya, Rubizhny, Severodonetsk. By using the Liman, we will be able to carry out fire control of a very important logistical arteries from Svatovo to Kreminnaya, Rubizhny and Severodonetsk," says Kovalenko.

According to the expert, events similar to those that took place on the eve of the counteroffensive in the Kharkiv region are taking place near Lyman, namely, the taking under fire control of an important logistical artery.

"In the Kharkiv region, it was Vovchansk, Velikiy Burluk, Kupyansk, Izyum. In the Luhansk region, it is an important logistical artery - from Troitsky to Svatov to Kreminnaya, Rubizhny and Severodonetsk. Especially Svatov. If we talk about the southern part (of the Luhansk region. - Ed. ), then exiting Liman significantly simplifies further counteroffensive actions from both the south and the north of the Luhansk region," Kovalenko notes.

Earlier, military expert Oleg Zhdanov stated that the city of Liman has no political significance in Russia's war against Ukraine, but it does have an operational significance.
