This happened two days after Sanchez returned from New York, where he participated in the 77th annual session of the United Nations General Assembly together with the heads of state and government of many other countries.

"This morning I gave a positive test for COVID-19", said the Spanish Prime Minister.

He also announced that he would not attend an event near Barcelona organized by the Catalan Socialists.

"I will continue to work, taking extreme precautions," Sanchez added at the same time.
