Mukul Rohatgi will not become the Attorney General of the country.

Rohatgi has turned down the Centre's proposal.

He withdrew his approval for the AG.

The tenure of the current AG KK Venugopal is ending on 30 September.

The central government had proposed Mukul Rohatgi to become the Attorney General again.

which he had previously accepted.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, 67, stepped down as Attorney General in June 2017 and was succeeded by KK Venugopal.

KK Venugopal worked as the top law officer of the Center for five years.

The central government had offered Mukul Rohatgi to become the Attorney General again, which he had accepted earlier.

According to sources, his second term was to start from October 1.

When KK Venugopal's first term as Attorney General was to end in 2020, he requested the government to relieve him of his responsibilities due to his age.

The government asked him to continue for another term.

But only for two years.


Mukul Rohatgi, a seasoned lawyer, has appeared in several high profile cases in the Supreme Court as well as in high courts across the country, including the Gujarat riots case in which he represented the Gujarat government.

He has also argued in the matter related to the National Judicial Appointments Commission.

Recently, Rohatgi led the defense team of Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan, who was arrested in the drug-on-cruise case.
