Moderna's next-generation vaccine arrived in Kaohsiung yesterday morning and will start in the afternoon.

[Reporter Lin Huiqin/Taipei Report] The Central Epidemic Command Center announced today that the third batch of 787,000 doses of Moderna’s next-generation BA.1 bivalent vaccine will be purchased this year and will arrive in Taiwan tonight, valid until March 28 next year Spokesman Zhuang Renxiang also said that the next-generation vaccines that had previously arrived have been inspected, sealed and distributed to various counties and cities. On the first day yesterday, a total of 11 counties and cities were launched, and a total of 4,469 people were vaccinated.

The command center pointed out that the third batch of 787,000 doses of Moderna's next-generation BA.1 bivalent vaccine is expected to arrive at Taoyuan International Airport tonight. It provides priority objects such as the elderly over 65 years old, residents of long-term care institutions, and those over 18 years old with immunocompromised and low immunity as supplementary vaccinations.

The command center pointed out that on July 22 last year, my country signed a two-year supply contract for a total of 35 million doses of Wuhan pneumonia (new coronavirus disease, COVID-19) vaccine with the American company Moderna, and it is scheduled to supply 20 million doses of vaccine this year. Including this batch of vaccines, a total of 12.03 million doses have arrived, of which 2.394 million doses are next-generation vaccines.

Overall, the coverage rate of the first dose of the national COVID-19 vaccine was 93.6%, the second dose was 87.5%, the coverage rate of the first booster dose was 73%, and the second booster dose was 10.5%.
