The research was conducted by scientists from Stanford University.

As it became known, the coronavirus affects adipose tissue, where it multiplies and causes new symptoms.

To assess SARS-CoV-2 infection in adipose tissue, the researchers performed real-time PCR (RTqPCR) for SARS-CoV-2 genes in adipose, lung, heart, and kidney samples from a cohort of eight COVID-19 patients.

SARS-CoV-2 RNA was detected in epicardial (EAT), visceral (VAT), and subcutaneous (SAT) adipose tissue in seven of eight patients with a mean Ct value of 33.
