Chandigarh:

Days after a video of a young woman allegedly intoxicated with illegal drugs in Punjab's Amritsar went viral on social media, a video of a young man stumbling on the road from the Sikh holy city has now surfaced.

In the video, shot at Chamrang Road in Amritsar East constituency, a drunk man can be seen bending down and struggling to walk on the road.

In the audio, a man is heard saying that the man appears to be smack intoxicated.

Smack is an illegal form of a strong opioid drug, also known as black tar heroin.

Earlier this month, a video of a young woman staggering while walking on the road in Maqboolpura area was shared widely online, following which police launched a search operation and arrested three people and recovered narcotics from their possession.

According to reports, the girl's family has abandoned her and she is now admitted to a de-addiction center in Amritsar.

The area is notorious for its problem of drug abuse and drug abuse.

The Sikh holy city of Maqboolpura often makes headlines for incidents involving drug abuse.

Several de-addiction drives launched by the police have failed to yield good results.


At least 350 drug smugglers were arrested in raids conducted across the state earlier this month.

According to the state police, the police have recovered 6.90 kg heroin, 14.41 kg opium, 5 kg ganja, 6.44 quintal poppy husk and 2.10 lakh vials of tablets, capsules, injections and pharma opioids during the raids.

Apart from randomly searching vehicles on sensitive routes across the state, ₹4.81 lakh drug money was also seized after a search operation in drug-affected areas.
