In the temporarily occupied territories of southern Ukraine, Russian forces have set dates for so-called
on joining Russia.
They were planned to be held from September 23 to 27.
Voting is also going to be held on these days in the occupied territories of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
In an interview with
, military expert Oleksandr Musienko explained the meaning of the so-called referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
"The counteroffensive broke the plans of the Russians. If you look at the occupied territories, especially in the south, the Ukrainian resistance has already repeatedly broken the plans of the occupiers. When they occupied the Kherson region, they began to think - what should they do next? They began to think about a "referendum" by analogy, as it was in the Donetsk or Luhansk regions. The "referendum" was planned for September 11, after the Ukrainian forces launched a counteroffensive, after powerful strikes on bridges, warehouses. All this broke the plans of the occupiers, but on the other hand - accelerated it. Because Putin needs to somehow react to the defeat in Kharkiv Oblast, the situation worsens for the Russians. Besides, Putin wants to appear strong and sow fear. Moreover, the occupiers are defeated, there are no victories. A weak tsar in the Russian imagination is no longer a tsar, but a kind of aging dictator .Therefore, Putin is trying to play back this situation quite quickly," he said.
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyi, in his video message on September 20, stated that Ukraine's position on the liberation of its territories remains unchanged, despite the announcements of so-called referendums from the Russian side.
The world community not only does not recognize the results of the so-called referendums, but will actively act in support of Ukraine. US President
stated at the UN General Assembly that
Russia violated the UN Charter
with its nuclear threats and plans to hold so-called "referendums" on the captured Ukrainian territories .
