The Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), has said that the construction of roads and bridges using stone and brick technology saves costs by 50 percent.

Speaking to a journalist in Dodoma, the Chief Executive of TARURA, Engineer Victor Seff, said that the technology reduces costs because it uses raw materials that are available in the relevant areas.

"We have built more than 73 stone bridges in Kigoma for 1.4 billion shs, but construction is also ongoing in Mwanza, Iringa and Singida Regions, where the price is cheap and if you consider that stones are available in many places in the country," he said and added that:

"This is our strategy, where we look at all the areas with stones that will be involved in construction, where in collaboration with donors from Belgium, we are starting to train technicians in building bridges and now those in Kigoma are being trained and when they return to their areas they will also train others."
