The Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), Nanyumbu Council, in Mtwara region, has completed the construction of a 1.8 kilometer asphalt road and installed 40 lights using fuel levy funds, one billion shillings, which were issued by the government in the financial year 2021/22.

The road is the first to be built in the town of Mangaka, Nanyumbu Council, since it was established in 2007 and set the history of the development of the town to have an asphalt road.

"The town of Mangaka has never had even one kilometer of asphalt in the sense of the roads managed by TARURA, this is the first asphalt," said the Manager of TARURA Nanyumbu, Engineer Hussein Mwombeki.

He has said that in the financial year 2021/2022, the government provided an amount of 2.4 billion shillings and of which Shs one billion is for fuel levy, which has been used to build and install 40 lights on the 1.8 kilometer long road.

Engineer Mwombeki has said that the road has been built in the part that goes to hospitals, government offices and financial services.

"People were having a lot of problems, they complain every day, the road before here had potholes, when it rains it becomes difficult to pass," he said.

In another step, Mwombeki said that the agency (TARURA), has built ten bridges and two drifts in rural areas using state funds 500 million shillings.

"In the fiscal year 2021/2022, the government provided us with 2.4 billion shillings and in those funds, they are divided into three groups, state funds Sh 500 million, one billion tolls and 780 million for normal road maintenance," he said.
