Big traffic jams formed this morning in the Greek capital Athens because of the 24-hour strike that city transport employees announced today, BTA reported, citing ANA-MPA.

The reason for the strike is the planned vote in parliament of a bill on state-owned joint-stock companies, which, according to the unions, affects the labor rights of employees, formalizes the role of unions in the appointment of new employees, opens the way for the appointment of employees on fixed-term contracts, etc.

The strikers are demanding the withdrawal of the bill, the preservation of the public nature of all public enterprises, the immediate signing of new collective labor agreements and the filling of vacancies with personnel on permanent contracts.
