The war on the roads continues to take its toll.

There are more and more cases of established drivers who drive after consuming alcohol or drugs.

"There is a sense of impunity in Bulgaria. I have never seen a more serious accident in my life than the one on Cherni Vrah Boulevard - the speed was very high. Such cases are isolated, they happen to people who think they can to go unpunished, that they are above the law, that there is an umbrella over them. These people, if not this week, then after some time they will end up like this," commented the chairman of the Bulgarian Motor Sports Federation Rumen Dunev in the studio of "Bulgaria Morning".

He emphasized that there is a requirement that all competitors pass a mandatory alcohol and drug test before the start.

"Alcohol and drugs do not improve the qualities of drivers, they give false self-confidence, which often ends tragically," said Dunev.

Expert: The Semerdzhiev case is not unique, the control gives a reflection

According to him, one of the ways to limit serious accidents is the adoption of a new Road Traffic Act.

He emphasized that many amendments are being made at the moment, which are not yielding results.

"Deputies cannot unite around the new Law on Road Traffic, which includes many elements that we as experts believe will reduce the number of serious accidents and victims, the collection of fines will improve. This law does not require funds, and people to forget that they have parties and colors," said Dunev.

Another problem that the guest pointed out is the lack of concentration among drivers - pressed by lifestyles, drivers do not think about the road and traffic, but get distracted behind the wheel.

Dunev criticized the removal of the delimiting pegs along part of the route in the Kresnen Gorge.

They proved that they could reduce the serious accidents with casualties that were a frequent occurrence in the area.

"This is something that works and protects human lives. It should not be removed lightly. The analysis of such a safety measure should be extended and applied to the road near Mikre, for example. This time it could use the good practice of Kresna and to brag at the end of the year that we have saved human lives," Dunev specified.

And he added that on critical sections where car races are held - such as the Shipka pass - repairs are being carried out to protect drivers - including the installation of special safety barriers for motorcyclists.

And Rumen Dunev recommended to the lovers of high speeds to visit "Sofia Track", which will gather the best competitors of Bulgaria on September 24 at the "Boyana" road junction.

"In addition to making a competition unique in its scale, our goal as a federation is to include all young people with gasoline and adrenaline in their blood, to create habits and through the applied championships they will become professional racers. The young people who do reckless actions on the road - refracted through the prism of applied championships, one day they can become champions of Bulgaria", Dunev is convinced.

The last competition at the "Boyana" junction was in 2009. Petar Stoychev, Kubrat Pulev, Dancho Yovchev were invited to the competition on Saturday.

Dunev specified that from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Bulgaria Blvd. and one lane of the Ring Road will be closed.
