Shock to Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram, Bengal.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday won the election of a cooperative society in Nandigram in West Bengal's East Medinipur district.

It is the constituency of Shubhendu Adhikari, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly.

A district official said that the BJP has won 11 out of 12 seats of the Bhekutia Sambey Agriculture Committee, while one seat has gone to the Trinamool Congress.

The election took place on Sunday and during this there were clashes between the workers of both the parties.

A BJP candidate, who won the election, alleged that the Trinamool tried to bring in outsiders to disrupt the election, but voters scuttled their plans.

In pictures aired on the news channel, some women are seen assaulting a member of a local panchayat samiti. The man is said to be a member of Trinamool Congress.

He was rescued by the policemen of Nandigram police station.
