From today, the payment of one-time social benefits for the affected families in the flooded villages of Karlovy Vary began.

A committee of construction engineers is also expected in the area to assess which of the houses will be able to be restored and which will have to be demolished as unsafe for living.

Today, people in Bogdan signaled that the bed of the local river has risen significantly and is creating a danger of another flood.

378 families from the affected villages have submitted documents for the one-time aid in the amount of BGN 375. The amount is transferred via bank transfer or paid at the post office.

The most funds go to the village of Bogdan, since the damage there is the most serious

"We will use these aids for the initial needs to cover medicines. They will not be enough for anything else," Georgi Vassilev told BNT.

"375 BGN, apart from buying a chainsaw and cutting all the trees in my yard, I might have to cut trees all winter. Rather, I rely on the state to fix the river bed, the bed is 4 meters compared to what it was before ", says Nikolay Boychev.

In this section of the river, the sediments from the upper reaches are collected and the level of the bed is constantly raised.

By the Yankin bridge, the trees that the water brought have made a huge dam.

The municipality assured that there will be an emergency cleaning of the river in the coming days.

And starting tomorrow, a structural engineer is coming to the area to inspect the most affected houses.

"And an expert opinion will be given there, according to which it will be assessed which will be demolished, if any, which can be strengthened and which will not need strengthening," said Nikolay Tsvetkov, deputy mayor of Karlovo municipality.

Specialists will evaluate a total of 96 houses.

In the town halls, lists of the building materials needed for the repair of the buildings are already being prepared.
