Capt Amarinder Singh to join BJP

Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh will join BJP today and will also merge his party Punjab Lok Congress.

BJP can also give big responsibility to Captain Amarinder.

Amarinder Singh (80) had quit the Congress last year after abruptly resigning as the chief minister and formed the PLC.

He will join the party in Delhi in the presence of BJP President JP Nadda and other leaders.

  • PLC spokesperson Preetpal Singh Balliawal said that seven former MLAs who joined the PLC and a former MP will also join the BJP on Monday.

  • He said that other PLC office-bearers and district president will join BJP in a separate program in Chandigarh next week.

  • Amarinder Singh, who recently returned from London after a spinal surgery, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the past fortnight.

  • BJP's Punjab unit leader Harjit Singh Grewal had said in July that Singh had expressed his intention to merge his party with the BJP before going to London.

    Grewal had said at that time that the former chief minister would announce the merger after returning from London.

  • Singh, a two-time chief minister, is a descendant of the erstwhile Patiala royal family.

    He had resigned from the Congress last year after Charanjit Singh Channi was made the chief minister.
