A day after the fire in a hotel in which a Colombian citizen died, the firefighters who pulled people out of the flames are speaking to Nova TV.

Fire crews arrived at the scene 3 minutes after the signal.

They see that flames are coming out of the window of the room where the fire started.

"Our teams found three people on the landing on the top floor who were calling for help," said Commissioner Nikolay Parvanov, head of the PGSD department at the Metropolitan Fire Department.

Then they see that there are more people on the sixth floor.

But then they realize that they won't be able to rescue more people with the ladder because they can't open the windows.

Thus, the only way firefighters can save hotel guests is the staircase.

"We went around all the rooms of the hotel, and it was necessary to break down the doors.

Thanks to our additional masks to the breathing apparatus, we managed to evacuate many people on the smoky staircase", explained Parvanov.

Fatal fire in a capital hotel: A woman died, six were injured

Two people were taken out on stretchers.

All the injured were examined by the emergency medical personnel, who are waiting for them downstairs.

"People were very scared.

Some of them were in their underwear," said Commissioner Vladimir Dimitrov, head of the Third Fire Service.

The main version of how the fire started is a faulty phone charger that was plugged in.

This is also among the most common causes of such fires, says Commissioner Parvanov.

The possibility that the fire started from an unextinguished cigarette is also being investigated.
