Munich residents and visitors eager to attend the first Oktoberfest since 2019 formed long lines early this morning, hours before the famous beer festival opened in the Bavarian capital.

As early as five o'clock, men and women dressed in traditional Bavarian costumes had gathered in front of the tents, although the first keg of beer would be opened late in the afternoon.

Few wore protective masks, and some of the visitors seemed to have already had their first drinks, DPA notes.

The earlier one arrives at the festival, the better chance one has of being accommodated in one of the more popular tents.

However, part of the impatient first visitors had to endure the not particularly good weather.

Men wearing short leather pants waited for the opening of the festival all night, even though temperatures dropped to 10 degrees and it rained occasionally, BTA notes.

Return: Oktoberfest will be held after a two-year hiatus
