Israel launched missile attacks on Syria's international airport on Saturday.

New Delhi:

The Defense Ministry said early Saturday that Israel carried out airstrikes at Syria's Damascus International Airport and other locations south of the capital, killing five soldiers.

A statement from the ministry said Syrian air defense intercepted the attack and managed to shoot down most of the missiles.

It was not immediately confirmed whether airport operations have been affected.

Regional diplomatic and intelligence sources said Israel has stepped up attacks on Syrian air bases to disrupt Tehran's increasing use of air supply lines to deliver weapons to allies in Syria and Lebanon,

Reuters reported.
