Chinese President Xi Jinping today called for a "fairer and more reasonable" international order.

He spoke at the leadership meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the city of Samarkand, Uzbekistan, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

The heads of state must "work together to establish an international order with a more just and reasonable direction", he emphasized at the forum, organized in opposition to the West.

Established in 2001, the SCO unites China, Russia, four Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan), India and Pakistan.

"We should promote common human values, abandon zero-sum games and the policy of creating blocs," Xi Jinping said.

He did not name any country as an example, but China generally uses this kind of language to condemn the US and its close allies.

"It is necessary to firmly defend the international system, placing the UN at its center, as well as an international order based on international law," Xi said.

His speech was delivered to a number of state leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian Ebrahim Raisi and Turkish Recep Erdogan, whose country is a "dialogue partner" of the SCO.
