With the measures against the growth of energy prices, the countries of the European Union are trying to correct a wrong policy in the last 10 years, initiated mainly by Mrs. Merkel.

This is what the energy expert Prof. Georgi Kaschiev said in the show "Face to Face" on BTV.

There was too much reliance on getting power from Russian gas.

In the last 20 years, Western Europe has doubled its supplies of Russian gas.

It got to the point where 35% of electricity in western countries was produced from gas.

Now we see the high price of electricity from gas plants manipulating the stock markets.

Another factor is the abandonment of nuclear power plants and the use of gas as a transitional energy, said Prof. Kaschiev.

One cannot rely on one source of energy, there must be a stable mix, as is the case in Bulgaria.

We are not an oasis, but we are in good shape compared to Western countries.

We have electricity generation that far exceeds our consumption.

Last year we were third in Europe in terms of electricity exports.

The challenge is to preserve the coal plants in the "Maritsa East" complex, he noted.

According to him, the project for a second nuclear power plant in Belene should not be realized.

According to the energy expert, a seventh unit at the Kozloduy NPP should be built instead.

Talking about construction with Russian reactors in the current geopolitical environment is a lost cause.

Those Russian ruble agents who ordered these reactors from Russia without a project and investment intention should be held accountable.

One of these reactors can be placed as a monument to stupidity and greed in Bankia, one in "Positano" and one in the royal estates.

At the Kozloduy NPP, everything necessary has been done in terms of preparation and permits for the seventh unit.

From now on, everything is in the hands of the government, commented Prof. Georgi Kaschiev.
