One of the torture chambers, according to Klimenka, was well organized in Balaklei, in the police station.

About 40 people were held there in the cells, they stayed there for up to 48 days.

As the head of the NPU specified, the second torture chamber was set up by the Russian military in the premises of the city's printing house.

"There was torture - we saw marks on people's hands from exposed electric wires, through which current was applied when they were interrogated.

Hammers and nooses were found.

Now we are carrying out investigative actions to establish the extent of the injuries that people received," he said.

Klimenko also told about the six torture chambers that the police found in Izyum.

According to him, units of the Russian army that engaged in torture have already been established: these are riot police from Tolyatti, units of the Russian Guard, the FSB, and the military of the so-called "LPR".

The head of the NPU reported that foreign citizens were found among those who were tortured.

They turned out to be seven students from Sri Lanka who were studying at a medical college.

Klimenko clarified that 204 criminal proceedings related to war crimes of the Russian Federation were opened over the last week.

The head of the National Police also commented on the situation with the mass burials found on September 15 in the forests near Izyum.

"Today there are about 445 burials there.

We are establishing the nature of injuries, circumstances and causes of death.

The bodies of the murdered people buried there since March will have to be exhumed and identified.

This is work for many weeks, but we will bring it to the end and establish who did it," Klimenko promised.

Earlier, the deputy of the Izyum city council, Maksim Strelnikov, reported the death of at least a thousand civilians in Izyum.

"According to the information we have, at least a thousand local citizens died as a result of the hostilities.

But, unfortunately, even more people suffered because they could not provide medical assistance in time.

The Russian occupiers destroyed all medical facilities in Izyum back in March," said the deputy.

Russian troops retreated from Izyum on September 10, as confirmed by the defense ministries of Russia and Ukraine.

Also, in the last few days, the Armed Forces liberated more than two dozen settlements in the Kharkiv region, including Balakleya and Kupyansk.
