The European Union (EU) welcomes the ceasefire reached between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

APA reports that Peter Stano, press secretary of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Affairs Joseph Borrell, said this.

"The EU welcomes the ceasefire agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which came into force yesterday at 20:00.

We are encouraged by local reports that the ceasefire has been observed so far.

We call on the parties to continue its implementation and to coordinate humanitarian steps such as the handover of military bodies.

EU special representative Toivo Klaar Borrell is holding high-level consultations yesterday in Baku and today in Yerevan.

The EU actively participates in the process of normalization between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the highest level through the President of the Council of the European Union, Charles Michel," Stano said in his statement.
