New Delhi:

MLA Amanatullah Khan, who has come under scrutiny by Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, a representative of the BJP-led central government, has become the new leader of the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Anti-Corruption Wing of the Delhi government, which reports to the Lieutenant Governor, has sent notice to Amanatullah Khan to appear for questioning on allegations of illegal appointment to the Delhi Waqf Board.

At the same time, Amanatullah Khan has denied all the allegations and said that he will come after Friday prayers.

Lt Governor Saxena had earlier allowed the CBI to prosecute the Delhi Waqf Board chairman in a case registered in 2016.

Prosecution sanction has also been given against Mehboob Alam, the then CEO of Waqf Board, for offenses causing willful and criminal breach of rules, regulations and law and abuse of office and causing financial loss, news agency PTI quoted sources as saying.

The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Headquarters) of the Delhi government's revenue department had filed a complaint in November 2016, alleging arbitrary and illegal appointments by Amanatullah Khan to various existing and non-existing posts in the Delhi Waqf Board.

Sources said that the CBI had registered a case and conducted an investigation which revealed sufficient prosecutable evidence, after which it had sought sanction of prosecution from the Lt Governor.

He said the CBI had submitted its request in May this year.

Before Amanatullah Khan, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and his cabinet colleague Satyendar Jain have been investigated by central investigative agencies.
