The fence is planned to be built by 2024.

This is reported by Delfi.

The purpose of the construction is to prevent illegal migrants who, with the support and help of the special services of the Lukashenka regime, are trying to get to the territory of the European Union.

"A fence with a height of almost four meters will not be a panacea, but it will be difficult for illegal migrants to overcome it on their own," said the general of the Border Guard of Latvia

Juris Martukans

.

So far, the border guards have not recorded attempts to climb over the newly constructed fence.

Most of the border is still without it, and potential violators can simply bypass it.

"The state border strip is not a straight line - we face a large number of complexities from both a geographical and a geodetic point of view.

There are many wet places, rivers, ditches.

Because the border strip of Latvia has not yet been cadastrally surveyed, and this is the first time that geodetic surveys and deforestation took place for so long," said

Ramona Inus

, director of the State Security Agency.
