"I think it will take some time, but I hope it won't go on forever like other crises.

It will take some time for the countries to realize the need for a ceasefire, to ensure peace based on the UN Charter and the norms of international law.

The UN and Turkey have established strong partnerships in dealing with the dramatic consequences of the war in Ukraine," Guterres said when asked if he feared "the war in Ukraine will drag on as long as it has in Syria, Yemen and Libya."

He also added that the UN, together with the EU and the US, is "doing everything possible" to ensure that sanctions do not interfere with food and fertilizer supplies.

"I am interested in solving the problems, not the concerns of the parties. The first problem that needs to be solved is to ensure access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to international markets. There are still some obstacles, we are doing our best, the sanctions not to interfere with the supply of food and fertilizers. Together with the US, the EU and other partners, we are making efforts in this direction," he said, quoted by BTA.

Guterres added that the UN is conducting negotiations to organize the export of ammonium nitrate from Russia through Ukraine.

The UN Secretary General has warned that the world could face a more serious pandemic in a few years.

"At the same time, we must be prepared for future epidemic outbreaks. We saw that the world failed to show unity during the coronavirus pandemic. In a few years, we may face a more serious pandemic. This is the moment when countries they must realize that the world and the international community are facing growing inequalities and threats that can cause tensions, unrest and crises," commented Guterres.
