The selected contractors of the first two of the three sections of the railway line, which should connect the Republic of North Macedonia with Bulgaria - Kumanovo-Belyakovce and Belyakovce-Kriva Palanka, are already mobilizing their expert teams and equipment to start work on the ground, said the Minister of transport and communications of the Republic of North Macedonia Blagoi Bochvarski during a visit to Strumica, BTA reported.

"We have announced that this autumn we will be on site at the start of work on the largest infrastructure project in railway infrastructure since the declaration of independence of North Macedonia to date, an investment of more than 200 million euros to connect (the Republic of North) Macedonia with Bulgaria.

The project is important because of Corridor 8, which is of particular importance for business, so we will help companies to have an alternative for the transport of heavy goods", said Bochvarski.

At the end of July of this year, "Macedonian Railways Infrastructure" signed an agreement with the Austrian company "Strabag", which should finish the work on the reconstruction and completion of the first section of the route, as well as with the Turkish "Gülermak" for the complete construction of the second section.

By the end of the year, a tender must be announced for the selection of a contractor for the third section from Kriva Palanka to the border with Bulgaria, the media in North Macedonia recall.
