The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has announced a cash reward on Shamim Ahmed alias Firoz Ahmed, who is absconding in the murder of Umesh Kolhe in Amravati, Maharashtra.

The NIA has announced a reward of Rs 2 lakh for anyone providing information about Shamim.

The investigating agency NIA has so far arrested around eight accused in this case. Umesh Kolhe, the owner of the medical store in Amravati, was murdered only because he wrote a post on social media in support of Nupur Sharma.

The 54-year-old chemist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe was murdered on 21 June 2022.

The Amravati police registered a case on June 22 and started investigation.

The incident took place on June 21 between 10 and 10.30 pm, when Umesh was returning home on his bike after closing his shop.

During this, Umesh's son Sanket and wife Vaishnavi were walking with him on another bike.

According to the police, as soon as Umesh reached near the gate of the women's college, a youth got off the bike and hit Umesh's neck with a sharp weapon and fled from the spot.

Umesh, covered in blood, fell on the road.

After this, Sanket took him to the hospital, where he died.

The case was registered on the instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, on


July 2, on the instructions of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Section 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 302 (punishment for murder), 153A (various on grounds of religion, caste, place) Promoting enmity between groups) was registered.

The Home Ministry had handed over the investigation of the case to the NIA, after which this case was registered.
