The first case of the "Centaur" subvariant of the new SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus has been identified in Greece, Sky TV reported, citing an epidemiological report by the Greek National Public Health Organization.

The BA.2.75.2 subvariant was detected in one of the tested samples.

This is a mutated strain that has so far been identified in India, Chile, Great Britain, Singapore, Spain and Germany.

However, reassuring signals are coming from the Greek health authorities.

They don't expect a new wave of cases because of Centaur because there is a high percentage of immunity in the population, and because where the Omicron 5 sub-variant dominates, Centaur is not widespread.

Over the past week, 33,590 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in Greece.

129 died, and 101 patients were intubated in intensive care units.

They discovered antibodies neutralizing all variants of COVID-19
