Canadian police have arrested a man after a Toronto police officer was shot and two other people were injured last night, the Associated Press reported, citing BTA.

Earlier, police issued an emergency alert by phone saying they were investigating an active shooter in Toronto and the surrounding area.

Police issued the warning after two shootings in the Ontario area yesterday afternoon.

Law enforcement said they are looking for a stolen black Jeep Cherokee and a suspect dressed in black with a construction vest.

"The suspect was located and taken into custody by police. One person died at the scene and two others were transported to the hospital," police said on Twitter.

Later last night, a police official familiar with the details of the case told The Associated Press that the suspect died after an interaction with police.

A tragic and unfortunate day for a Toronto police officer who was killed, and various victims around the GTA.

It would seem that active shooter incidents and gun violence are on the rise in Canada.

Troubled times, and our thoughts are with all those involved.
