OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau and OSCE Secretary General Maria Helga Schmid called on the parties to an immediate ceasefire in connection with the armed conflicts along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.

APA reports that this was stated in a joint statement.

"The escalation of military operations on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border should be stopped immediately.

The progress made so far through diplomacy should not go to waste," Rau said.

He stressed that during the last 18 months, there have been various developments, including the agreement to continue work towards a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

However, these conflicts threaten the progress made and put countless lives at risk.

Maria Helg Schmid noted that the OSCE is ready to help the parties to establish peace based on decades of experience.

"We all share the common goal of achieving lasting peace and prosperity in the region," Schmid said.
