On the occasion of the National Day of Service and Remembrance of the approximately 3,000 victims of the terrorist attacks in New York on September 11, 2001, today at the US Embassy in Skopje, a blood donation drive was held with the Red Cross of the Republic of of North Macedonia and the Institute for Transfusion Medicine.

In the presence of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Oliver Spasovski, MPs, representatives of religious communities and the diplomatic corps, American Ambassador Kate Marie Burns emphasized that this action is an excellent symbol of the partnership between the USA and North Macedonia and joint activities. to ensure a better and safer future for the citizens of both countries.

It is dedicated, she emphasized, to the blood donors here in North Macedonia, in the USA and in the world, because the volunteers were the ones who first came to the aid of the rescuers, risking their lives to track down the survivors and to helped the injured, including donating blood.

"Before September 11, 2001, it was unthinkable that it is possible to be prepared for tragedies of such proportions.

Since then we have learned a lot about the threats we face in the world and how to be better prepared to deal with any type of disaster, whether man-made or natural.

Donating blood is just one example of how we can contribute to crisis preparedness, providing necessary amounts of life-saving fluid to those who need it the most," said Bërnz.

She recalled that this year the US Embassy in Skopje worked with its partners in the Army and the police in North Macedonia, in training for large-scale crisis management with the involvement of Embassy personnel, which enabled training for assistance. first.

Exercises like this, according to her, represent a tool that enables quick and efficient response in crisis conditions to save lives and prevent further damage.

The general secretary of the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia, Sait Saiti, emphasized that the tragic event that happened 21 years ago is a painful reminder not only for the American people but also for the entire progressive world, but also a reminder of how important to be helped in conditions of tragedies, to mobilize all resources in the service of helping the injured and the suffering.

In this action, which is the 12th in a row, the ambassador, the staff of the Embassy, ​​as well as some of the guests present, donated blood.

The action will continue for three days in "Dare Xhambaz", where the members of the Army, the police, but also any interested citizen will donate blood.
