It is the habit of most of us to keep all the fruits we buy together in the same container, the same goes for vegetables

However, we are making a big mistake.

Very often we keep them in containers with this fruit, and this is actually a climate fruit, this means that the fruit which starts ripening even after harvesting, breathes intensively, Telegrafi reports.

As soon as it breathes intensely, it releases gas, a plant hormone that signals the ripening of surrounding fruits, which accelerates the decay of other fruits.

For the same reason, we should not keep tomatoes and cucumbers together.

Tomatoes are also a climacteric vegetable, meaning they will last longer if kept separate from cucumbers.

We also make the mistake of keeping tomatoes in the refrigerator, so they often don't have a pleasant taste and would be much tastier if they stayed at room temperature.

And not only tomatoes, here are some other vegetables you should not keep in the fridge!

Tomatoes, watermelons, potatoes, onions... It doesn't hurt to keep them in the fridge, it's just that the sensory impression is much better if they are not.

Food technologists have also explained that there are foods that we should not keep in bags, and among them are bananas, figs, peaches, apricots, kiwi, plums, melons, tomatoes and mushrooms.

These bags affect the shortening of the term, i.e. faster deterioration due to that intense breathing.

In some cases, paper bags come in handy, even better if they are packed in boxes, several containers or if you have cloth bags and the like.

As for the mushrooms, they should be kept in the refrigerator, but they should not be washed or cut too long before use, as this shortens the shelf life, which is normally a maximum of five or six days.
