Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova, who is on an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, met with Rustam Emomali, the Speaker of the Supreme Assembly of this country.

According to the information given to APA by the Milli Majlis, first, a private meeting was held between the Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Supreme Assembly of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali.

During the meeting, discussions were held on the development of relations between the two countries and the strengthening of inter-parliamentary cooperation.

Then the meeting was continued with the participation of delegations.

Greeting the Chairman of the Azerbaijan Milli Majlis, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan, Rustam Emomali, said that his country attaches great importance to relations with friendly Azerbaijan and highly values ​​them.

According to him, both bilateral and multilateral relations between the two countries, as well as cooperation within the framework of international organizations, are developing successfully.

Stressing that Azerbaijan occupies an important place in the foreign policy of Tajikistan, Rustam Emomeli noted that our relations are based on rich historical roots.

Emphasizing that Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the Supreme Majlis of the Republic of Tajikistan, visited Tajikistan for the first time as the speaker of the Milli Majlis, she expressed her belief that this visit will contribute to the further development of inter-parliamentary relations between the two friendly countries.

He assessed this visit as a continuation of high cooperation relations between our legislative bodies and said that the visit is a good opportunity to discuss issues that serve our common interests.

Noting the successful chairmanship of Azerbaijan's Non-Aligned Movement, Rustam Emomali emphasized the establishment of the Movement's Parliamentary Network at the initiative of our country, and said that the Tajik parliament is also ready to support the Network.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude for the hospitality and pointed out that there are friendly and partnership relations between our countries.

Reminding that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Tajikistan, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova said that the political, economic, cultural, and humanitarian relations between our countries have successfully developed over the years.

He emphasized the importance of mutual visits of heads of state in deepening relations between our countries and peoples.

Stating that legislative bodies play an important role in the development of relations between our countries, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis said that the successful cooperation of our parliaments serves the interests of our peoples.

The Speaker recalled that the Agreement on Cooperation was signed between the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Milli Majlis of the Supreme Assembly of Tajikistan within the framework of Rustam Emomali's visit to our country in March of this year, and said that the signing of this document created grounds for further expansion of our cooperation.

He noted that our legislative bodies successfully cooperate in a number of international parliamentary organizations.

Sahiba Gafarova pointed out that the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan attaches great importance to cooperation with international parliamentary organizations and said that the Non-Aligned Movement of our country made significant contributions to the work of the Parliamentary Network.

He recalled that in November of last year, the founding meeting of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Madrid on the initiative of the President of Azerbaijan and the Parliamentary Network was established.

On June 30-July 1 of this year, the Baku Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in Azerbaijan with the participation of the delegations of the parliaments of 40 countries and 8 international parliamentary organizations.

During the conference, the Baku Declaration reflecting our general position and views was adopted.

This is important for the institutional development of the Parliamentary Network.

The chairman of the Milli Majlis also informed the other side about the situation in the region after Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity, and about the major construction works carried out in the cities and regions freed from occupation by our country.

During the conversation, other issues of mutual interest were exchanged.

The head of Azerbaijan-Tajikistan inter-parliamentary relations working group Aydin Mirzazade, members of the group Anatoliy Rafailov, Azer Badamov, Azerbaijan's ambassador to Tajikistan Alimirzamin Asgarov and other officials took part in the meeting.
