A record jump of 50 places marked Cyprus in the global index for attracting foreign direct investment.

It is also in the top 10 of the countries that most quickly restore the inflow of capital after the pandemic, reports BNR.

Cyprus has reached 18th place in the Global Greenfield FDI Performance Index for 2021, rising from 68th place in 2020, the Cyprus Investment Promotion Agency (Invest Cyprus) announced.

This is the biggest change registered in this year's index, she emphasized.

The international ranking evaluates 84 countries according to the amount of foreign direct investment they attract in proportion to the size of their economy.

Cyprus is also included in the top ten countries that recover the fastest capital inflow after the pandemic.

Tourism revenues are growing in Cyprus

In the first half of 2022, foreign direct investment in the country increased by 150% compared to the same period in 2019, and the growth of investments in the information technology sector reached an impressive 600%, Finance Minister Konstantinos Petridis said.

According to him, the significant increase in foreign investment during the pandemic contributed to the rapid recovery of the economy, jobs and incomes, which is especially important in the current turbulent economic environment.
