According to her, it was local residents who "contacted the police and reported that Russian soldiers had killed their fellow citizens" after this village came under Ukrainian control last week.

Ukraine has announced in recent days significant territorial gains in the northeastern Kharkiv region bordering Russia, which has been partially under Russian occupation since the start of the war.

In another village in the district, Grakovoe, where AFP journalists observed destruction testifying to the ferocity of the fighting, prosecutors also said they found the bodies of two civilians with signs of torture and gunshot wounds to the back of the head.

Russian forces have been accused of numerous crimes during their occupation of the outskirts of Kyiv, particularly Bucha, from where they withdrew in late March.

Moscow, for its part, denied that Russian forces had committed crimes and assured that it was a case of forgeries.

The head of the Russian-appointed military-civilian administration of the Kharkiv region, Vitaly Ganchev, said on the air of "Russia 24" television that mercenaries shoot local residents and capture it on camera, so that the Russian military can be accused later.
