Francis (in Latin: Franciscus PP.), until his election Jorge Mario Bergoglio - Pope of Rome on March 13 called the participants in a conference of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences to pray to the Mother of God that there would be no nuclear war.

"Today, armed conflicts between countries bring only destruction," the head of the Roman Catholic Church emphasized, as quoted by AP.

According to him, after two tragic world wars, the world has learned a lesson and learned to move forward by respecting human rights and international law, as well as by relying on all forms of interaction in the search for a solution in a conflict situation.

"Unfortunately, now we see signs that we are going backwards," Pope Francis said

He added that not only are old conflicts escalating, but negative sentiments such as aggressive nationalism are also developing.

He clarified that he had already talked about the Third World War, which, according to him, would be partial, but today he thinks that one can also talk about a "total" war.

Francis (in Latin: Franciscus PP.), until his election Jorge Mario Bergoglio - Roman Pope from March 13 recalled how one of his predecessors, who has already been proclaimed a saint, namely Saint John Paul II, thanked God that with the intercession of The Virgin Mary did not start a nuclear war.

"Today we must continue to pray again, even though this danger should have been removed a long time ago," the Pope emphasized.

His appeal precedes the prayer for peace to which all Catholics in the world are called.

It is scheduled for September 14, when in all Catholic churches the faithful will pray for peace in Ukraine.
