Mumbai:

A 12-year-old girl, who was allegedly kidnapped from suburban Bandra in the metropolis and taken to Uttar Pradesh, was freed by her father, a daily wage labourer.

The accused, identified as Shahid Khan (24), was employed in a garment manufacturing unit in Bandra and the victim's family also lives in the same area, a police official said on Saturday. 

He said that the accused had allegedly asked the girl to accompany him for shopping on September 4, but instead he took her to Kurla, from where he accompanied her in a bus to Surat and later by train. Reached Delhi.

The officer said that the girl had made some excuse in front of her mother before leaving the house and when she did not return, her parents lodged a complaint with the police and then a case of kidnapping was registered.

He said that the girl's father is a daily wage labourer, who interrogated the neighbors and the people of the area and traced the accused with the help of police.

After coming to know that the accused is a resident of Atrauli village near Aligarh, the victim's father contacted the accused's family and managed to rescue him with the help of local police and villagers, the official said. 

The girl's father claimed, "My daughter said that the accused had raped her in a Surat bus in a state of intoxication."

He demanded registration of an FIR in the case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act.

An official of Nirmal Nagar police station said that an FIR has been registered under section 363 (kidnapping) and more sections will be added after the victim's statement is recorded.
