An earthquake of magnitude 7.6 on the Richter scale has shaken the eastern part of Papua New Guinea on Sunday morning, as reported by the United States Geological Survey and the Indonesian Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics agency.

The earthquake was recorded at 06:47 local time (23:47 Spanish peninsular time), at a depth of 116 kilometers.

In the previous morning, two earthquakes of magnitude 6.2 and 5.8 were felt in the Indonesian province of Papua, on the same island.

These earthquakes were recorded at a depth of 19 and 15 kilometers respectively.
