Some Ukrainian forces have advanced "up to 50 kilometers into territory previously controlled by Russia" in southern Kharkiv Oblast, according to the latest intelligence assessment by British intelligence tweeted today.

Russian forces are under pressure on both the southern and northern flanks of the conflict, the assessment added.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky yesterday said that Ukrainian troops have regained control of more than 30 towns and villages in the Kharkiv region.

"We are gradually taking control of new settlements," he said.

"Everywhere we return the Ukrainian flag and protection for our people," added Zelensky.

He also noted that "fierce fighting" continues in Donbas, as well as in the southern part of the country.

Also today, Ukrainian forces announced that they had entered the eastern city of Kupyansk, located in a key area that has been in the hands of the Russian army for several months, AFP reported.

Ukrainian special forces published photos on social networks showing their servicemen "in Kupyansk, which was and always will be Ukrainian".

A local government representative posted a photo of Ukrainian soldiers in the city of 27,000 with the text: "Kupyansk is Ukraine."
