During a special session of the British Parliament, senior MPs, including Prime Minister Liz Truss, took a new oath of allegiance to King Charles III.

All about the topic:

The death of Queen Elizabeth II and the new crown prince 81

After earlier in the day Prince Charles Philip Arthur George, the eldest son of the late British Queen Elizabeth II, was officially proclaimed as the next British king with the name Charles III, a little later, in an unprecedented manner on Saturday, the British Parliament assembled the MPs, handed over BNR.

It's official: Charles III is the new King of Great Britain

The Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, opened the emergency session and was the first to take the oath, followed by the longest-serving MP, Sir Peter Bottomley.

Hoyle noted that due to time constraints, only a small number of MPs could take the oath of allegiance today.

Liz Truss was among them.

The text of the oath reads:

"I swear by almighty God to be faithful and to be truly devoted to His Majesty King Charles, his heirs and successors, so help me, God!"

The historic moment is very rare, because for the second day in a row the MPs from the House of Commons and the nobles from the House of Lords are gathered together as part of the mourning.

It is assumed that there will be no further sessions of Parliament until the funeral.
