The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, announced this Friday that as of September 26, the border with Colombia will be opened jointly.

“I am very happy to announce that as of September 26 we will jointly open the borders between Venezuela and Colombia.

In addition, we will resume flights between Caracas - Bogotá and Valencia – Bogotá," the Venezuelan president said on Twitter.

“The exchange and cooperation between our peoples are getting off to a good start,” added Maduro, who received the Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism of Colombia, Germán Umaña Mendoza, on Thursday at the Miraflores Palace in Caracas.

The border between Venezuela and Colombia had been closed for seven years.

the story goes back to August 19, 2015 when three members of the Venezuelan Armed Forces and a civilian were injured in the area.

Then the situation only became more complex.

This news is a sign of hope and unity for both peoples and Latin America.
