The Commander of the Revolution and Deputy Prime Minister of Cuba, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, evaluated this Thursday the rehabilitation process of Unit Two of the Lidio Ramón Pérez Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTE), in Felton, in the Holguin municipality of Mayarí.

The directors of the plant explained the progress of the current stage of preparation for dismantling the boiler, recognized as a complex and controlled process, which constitutes one of the most important actions of recovery.

Valdés Menéndez was interested in the programming and execution times of this stage, one of the most comprehensive temporarily within a schedule that covers three fundamental phases, also including assembly and subsequent tests and synchronization of the unit.

It is necessary to adjust the time depending on the work arranged for each phase, based on the same business management, organization and use of the working day, achieving rehabilitation in the shortest possible time, he emphasized.

In this sense, he learned that to date several pieces of equipment have been dismantled, including 12 burners, 16 torches, the gas ducts, the roof cover, and work is being done on the process of dismantling the thermal insulation of the boiler, and other damaged structures. .

Among other tasks, the equipment reception, storage and conservation area is prepared, and supplies are defined to acquire parts, and guarantee the quality of life of the workers and their families.

Together with the workers of the plant, and from a well-defined critical route, four construction companies participate in these actions, with more than 700 workers who guarantee the efficiency of the disassembly process.

For this necessary large-scale investment, all the industries and organizations of the nation have been summoned, with the aim of recovering this unit, with more than 20 years of exploitation and damaged by a fire on July 8, when the process began. of start-up after a partial capitalizable maintenance that intended to incorporate around 220 megawatts (MW) to the SEN for the summer months.

The fundamental objective is to retake the stability of one of the plants that decides on electricity generation in the country, contributing around 500 MW to the National Electric System (SEN).

Euclides Rodríguez Mejías, director of the Central, explained that block one maintains a stable generation, with 235 MW after its last synchronization with the SEN, on September 1.

Valdés Menéndez was accompanied on his visit by Ernesto Santiesteban Velázquez, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in the province;

and Julio César Estupiñán Rodríguez, Governor of Holguín, among other directors of the Electric Union.
