Germany will keep two of its nuclear power plants on standby because of the energy crisis.

As previously decided, the last nuclear plants were to shut down this fall.

But because of the crisis, a change in the plan was announced.

Plants in southern Germany will remain on standby until at least April.

They are the subject of much controversy in Germany.

The Greens, who are part of the governing coalition, built a significant part of their policy on campaigns to shut down the power plants, reports Nova TV.

Other parties insist they should be allowed to operate.

Against the background of Germany's large total consumption, the three operating plants produce relatively little electricity.

But the political aspect of the matter supersedes practical considerations.

"The decision is delicate, because this is a high-risk technology. It should have been stopped from use by the end of 2022. But the change is imperative and, in my opinion, does not contradict our positions as a party. That's why we proposed the current decision to the coalition partners," he said. Robert Habeck, Minister of Economy of Germany.
